Mining Views
Very early view showing miners in a "lead cave" near Cardin, Oklahoma.  Note that none of these miners has a hard hat.
This fancy rock garden was at Eagle Picher's Central Mill in the 1940s and was made from mineral specimens.  I never saw this so I think it must have been removed by the 1960s.  Central Mill was southwest of Cardin, Oklahoma.
During the 1950s the Nancy Jane Mine Tour was a popular tourist stop near Route 66.  It was located near the giant Central Mill chat pile which was then the world's largest.  Later, there was a mine tour at the old Vanpool mine.  This mine tour was located just north of Route 66 on the road leading north to Picher.
