End Of An Era
Relics From Yesteryear.

A man made mountain looms in the background behind this overgrowth at Tar Creek near Douthat, Oklahoma.  These mountains of gravel give mute testimony to the amount of material removed from the underground mines in the Picher area.  Most of this will be gone in a few years.
Lake Eagle-Picher could be the name of this lake that has formed where the world's largest chat pile once stood.  The huge chat pile that was formed by the Central Mill was hauled off in a period of a few years after the Eagle-Picher operations ceased leaving this desolate landscape.  This mill was located about a mile west of Douthat.
