Afton, Oklahoma Today

Here is the view of Main St looking south as it looks in 2003 and there is almost nothing left of the structures in the earlier views shown on this site.
This view is looking north toward the Frisco Railroad tracks and shows the area as it looks in 2003.  The Dawson Hotel would have been to the left.  I think that the building on the right is visible in the 1910 view on an earlier page.
These early buildings are on the north side of Route 69 when runs through Afton.  This street is the original  Route 66.
This very old building is located east of the buildings above.  The building next to it has recently succumbed to fire.  Even though the old stores are dissappearing, the residential areas of Afton are still in good shape.

This is the original road from Miami to Afton and was Route 66 during the early years before the road that now is Route 69 was built.  This road is deteriorating badly and road crews are covering it up with gravel or removing it altogether.  In a very few years, it will be gone forever.
