This is a pre 1920 view of Miami that was taken from the courthouse. In the distance workers are constructing the Hotel Miami. Another old building of some kind sits where the Coleman Theater now is. The building east of it on the northeast corner of the intersection of North Main and 1st Ave is still there. Almost all other buildings in the photo are now gone. |
The two story wooden building, which was west of the present day post office was Dr. Pennell's Sanitarium according to writing on the original photo. This building, which looks more like a rooming house, has been gone for many years. There were lots of residences along A street N.E. that are now gone and have been replaced by parking lots. Several blocks on the west side of Main are also now parking lots where houses and businesses once were. |
