In July, 1951 came the flood of the century when the Neosho overflowed after heavy rains and chased about 3000 Miami residents out of their homes. In this view, looking east on 3rd st. (now Steve Owens Blvd.) the water has risen almost to the Frisco railroad crossing. Many houses along this street were inundated and washed from their foundations. The water was ten feet deep at NEO college and shut off access to the city from all but the north.
