Lead and Zinc Mining in the Picher District
Typical mine and mill in the Picher district, this is the Dorothy Bill Mine which was located near where the Picher High School now is.  Notice the narrow gage railroad tracks and the two lines of ore cars and small locomotive.  These cars were loaded at a near by field shaft and hauled over to the mill and pulled up that inclined track and dumped into the mill hopper.  Photo from Robert Cox.

Lucky Syndicate Mine, Picher, Oklahoma. 1923.  Here is a view of the mill shaft derrick and the mine offices.  Other mines and mills are visible in the background.  Wouldn't you like to have that little truck?
Lead ore, called "galena" has a cubical structure.  Chemically, it is known as lead sulphide.
