Picher, Oklahoma in the 1920's
I believe tht this photo was taken looking N. E.  It is a section from a larger photo and in the larger picture Blue Mound is visible  in the upper left hand side of the picture.  The picture may be of an area in the northwest part of Picher.  Notice the row of identical houses and also the church and two story rooming house.
Another large rooming house in downtown Picher.  This large wooden two story structure could hold a lot of people and miners would rent these rooms.  Other miners with families had wooden shanties like those seen around the rooming house.  This large wooden building was a fire trap and may have had only one or two entrances.  There were many of these buildings in early day Picher and Cardin and all are gone now.  Edited from a larger photo by John Schehrer
