Cactus Mine, Commerce, Ok.
The Cactus mine was located west of Commerce and was a good producer of lead and zinc for many years. Here is what it looked like inside of the derrick where the hoisterman worked. You can see a large ore bucket at the left side of the picture. The ore was hoisted up the shaft and dumped into the hopper of the derrick or into the mill hopper.
These miners are at the bottom of the shaft at the Cactus mine. The can of ore will be attached to the cable by the hooker and the hoisterman will raise it to the derrick and then dump it into the hopper.
The Cactus mine was later operated by the Commerce Mining and Royalty Co.
