Here is a view looking straight west from the top of the Ottawa County courthouse.  This view looks toward Main Street and shows the primitive conditions of the time.  Note the two horses standing by the shack and all the junk laying around.  On Main St. you can see the Grand Theater which was later the Ottawa theater.  There is a hot chili restaurant next to it.  A new building is going up on the east side of Main.

Early day view of Miami Baptist Hospital.  This attractive building was completely remodeled in the 1960s and bears no resemblance to this scene.  Nurses and staff pose at the entrance which was located at First and B street Southwest.  Many of Ottawa County's inhabitants were born at this hospital.  The house that is barely visible at the left side of the picture is the fancy Victorian house shown in a later picture in this series.

A photo of the State Bank of Miami taken about 1910.  This bank was located on the corner of C and Central where the First National Bank stands today,  so there has been a bank there for around 100 years.  Photo courtesy of C. A.
