Population Of Towns In Oklahoma in 1922
Data from a 1922 Atlas, courtesy of Richard Winters
In 1922, Mining in Ottawa County was the major industry in the state and Picher was the biggest town in Ottawa County with 9676 and Miami was far back at 6802.  Of course, many people lived over the state line at Treece, Ks. and surrounding area, so the Picher area was very large in population at that time.  Notice the number of small towns in Oklahoma in 1922.  Towns such as Hockerville and Century are not shown and may not have been incorporated in 1922. Many of these towns are now only a memory.
