St. Louis, Oklahoma
A Long Forgotten Mining Community
St. Louis, Oklahoma was later known as Zincville.  This community was probably mainly employees of the St. Louis Smelting & Refining Co., one of the biggest mining companies in the Picher lead and zinc mining district.  Here is a typical view of life in the Picher mining district in the 1920s. St. Louis was located east of Picher, Oklahoma and was part of a very rich mining region.  There are only a few houses and a church left among the rocks and tailing piles.
